#WorldRecyclingDay is the perfect time to celebrate our commitment to intentionally caring for our planet and minimizing waste. In 2023, our company recycled 350 tons of bulk waste and 99% of hazardous waste, equating to 70.5% of all waste generated. We more than doubled our recycle rate from the previous year and exceeded our overall goal of 50%.

Last week, we got a behind-the-scenes tour of the newly-expanded Tidewater Community College Skilled Trades Academy expected to be completed this summer! The new 40,000 square-foot, fully-equipped facility in Portsmouth will increase class offerings and capacity, connecting students to emerging in-demand careers through short-term, hands-on training. Close to 100% of students who complete industry-recognized credentials are hired by regional employers, and we're very proud to be the program's lead sponsor.

#MondaySafetyMoment May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, so remember to safely share the road with motorcyclists. Drivers should always look before changing lanes or passing a motorcycle, and riders also should remember to wear protective gear and stay alert.

Our Green Team recently completed some outdoor spring cleaning at the The Elizabeth River Trail Foundation Challenge Course, volunteering their time to maintain the grounds.

We use more than just tolling technology in our operations. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) measures changes in land surface altitudes around our project area. This data can potentially help us identify shifts in the earth or our structures so we can take action to keep our roads and tunnels safe for the traveling public. #NationalTechnologyDay

Naashra is studying biochemistry and public health at Roanoke College with support from our Good Citizen Scholarship awarded in 2023. She serves as a Maroon Ambassador on campus and is a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority where she holds a pair of director positions, and recently returned from a Spring Break trip to St. Croix with the office of multicultural affairs. She has her sights set on becoming an OB-GYN after medical school, and we're so proud of her!
